Raiders Midget U16 Team
Ellenton Labor Day Champions
The
Labor Day Challenge Cup Midget championship game, played by none
other than the Raiders, as the home team going in with three wins
and no losses, challenged by the Florida Panther team, was surely a
game to watch.
The
game started with
Coach Trevor
putting out his starting five and bang 20 seconds
into the game the Panther offense was able to break through the
neutral zone with the puck and score. At this moment we knew they
meant business and should not be taken lightly.
Soon,
Che Martinez
found the back of the net and momentum was again
with us. Shortly after,
Chris Gascy
beat the goalie for a 2 to one lead. The Panthers were not
done yet and came back to tie the game.
Nick
Lafleche would not stand for that ,battling for the
puck, Nick scored giving the Raiders the lead once again. This was
definitely a high tempo, nail biting game. Both teams were
there to win!
The
Panthers answered with a goal, but that did not stop the Raiders,
who answered back, this time with
Jordan Grimsley
shooting from the point with a shot the Panthers
goalie never saw coming. The score was now 4 to 3. Soon after,
Chris Gascy
scored his second goal of the game giving the Raiders a two
point lead with 7 minutes left.
At
this point, the Panthers coach was probably frustrated and instead
of recognizing an icing call he thought there was a delayed penalty
and pulled their goalie. Chris
Gascy almost capitalized on the mistake as he
entered the Panthers zone controlling the puck, but unfortunately
before he could pull the trigger, the Panther defense was able to
tie up his stick.
The
Panthers played and battled till the very end scoring a fourth goal
with a minute left and never lost their composure nor attempted
any dirty tactics. The game ended and the celebration began
for the U16A
Raiders remaining undefeated, 4 wins 0 losses.
